Hello everybody, The silence after Lisbon this time unexpectedly does not mean we are back to sleep. Together with Bob and Kevin I use all available time in hammering out a new version of the SDD schema incorporating the discussions from Lisbon and increasing the logic and consistency of the schema. Before we publish the entire schema, I would like to raise some isolated and specific points in the coming days on the email list. I would also like to point to Bobs WIKI (http://efgblade.cs.umb.edu/twiki/bin/edit/SDD/) where some discussions among us are going on. Topic: Agents ============= After Lisbon I changed the ContributorsDocumentation/Contributor structure within Resources to "Agents/Agent". I basically agree with Kevin, Agents is not very nice. I used it simply because ABCD is doing so. However I don't like Contributors either. 1. I find it confusing being used twice with different meaning. OtherContributors (i.e. other than Authors or Editors) is not very nice either. 2. More fundamentally, all resources in SDD are objects and should have object names. "Contributors" is a _role_ name and therefore not very appropriate. The list of persons or organizations may be used in other circumstances, albeit we currently have none in SDD. Any good other term to denote "Person or Organization" in general, without naming their role? For technical reasons, it would be FAR better if people start at http://efgblade.cs.umb.edu/twiki/bin/view/SDD/ than the address that Gregor gave. The first time you try to make a contribution to the wiki you will be invited to register. I really hope most discussion takes place in the wiki, not in email. It's a better discussion medium as most people agree after the 15 minute learning curve. MEETING Details in Lisbon ========================= My apologies for the late notice! I have been away and came back ill, so I could only today get into the institute to have email access. For the same reason, I did not manage to finish the Paris minutes, which is a real pity. I would welcome if this time some other member present could make the minutes of the meeting, perhaps different people on different days. Tuesday October 21 ------------------ We meet at 9 (or perhaps a bit later, if the transport takes longer) in the IGC, please see http://www.tdwg.org/2003meet/TDWG2003.htm for further information. I suggest that those staying in the Praia Mar hotel meet at 8:30 in front of the reception (unless you receive a different notice about shuttle transport when you arrive). Wednesday October 22 -------------------- As above, we will convene at a room in the IGC and 9:00. Thursday October 23 ------------------- No SDD meeting. Most will join the Taxonomic Names group, which will be crucial to SDD as well to be able to produce full-fledged data sets including taxonomic name information. Friday October 24 ------------------- No SDD meeting. Some should join the ABCD group. It would be good if the two schemata use some common elements/principles. The server will continue to contact your old address. If the old address is no longer valid, it will automatically remove it from the list after a while. If this is a problem, I can try to remove the old address manually.
