*** Please excuse cross-posting *** The ALCTS CaMMS Cataloging Norms Interest Group (CNIG) seeks speakers to present at the ALA Midwinter Conference to be held in Atlanta on Saturday, January 21st, 2017, 10:30 AM - 11:30 AM. The Cataloging Norms Interest Group offers a forum for the exploration, communication, and exchange of ideas and best practices on the dynamics of cataloging/metadata norms and workflows in the hybrid environment. Presentation topics should be of current interest to catalogers, cataloguing managers and administrators, and be approximately 15-20 minutes in length. Additional time will be allowed for questions and discussion. Our MidWinter meeting's theme is "Best Practices for Digital Repositories" and potential topics may include (but are not limited to): * Metadata application in digital repositories; * Archiving, curating and preserving special and cultural heritage collections; * Linked data implementation in or related to digital repositories; * Research data, datasets and digital repositories; * Implementing guidelines and standards for digital repositories; * Metadata choices in digital repositories and in the traditional library environment; * Support open data and open scholarship using digital repositories; * Assessment of content and impact in digital repositories; * Use metadata and data to improve digital repository services; * Issues, challenges and opportunities in cataloging in digital repositories. New TDWG Constitution submitted to the membership for review

[ Please excuse the duplicate posts of this important announcement. ] TDWG Executive Committee proposes a new Constitution. In 2015, the TDWG Executive Committee commissioned a team to assess TDWG's structure and effectiveness, and to propose changes to the TDWG Constitution as needed. That work is now complete, and the Executive Committee has advanced the proposal to the membership for review. The revised Constitution aims to engage more people in the ongoing activities of TDWG, and to promote continuity in governance across years. If the proposed Constitution is adopted, new committees will be created and charged with ongoing responsibilities, and new officers will be elected to lead those committees. It will end with with the close of electronic voting on 06-Dec-2016. Each member is encouraged to read the proposal and assess the changes against the rationale presented in the package. Voting will be electronic. Each member in good standing[1] will receive an electronic ballot, and will be entitled to one vote (approve/disapprove). Consider adding WeDigBio to your biodiversity course schedule

Hi, everyone. If you’re like me, you are currently thinking about class schedules for next semester I encourage you to consider adding WeDigBio to those schedules on October 20 or 21 (a Thursday or Friday) this year. Last year I reserved a computer lab for my Field Botany class during WeDigBio, and the students transcribed specimen labels at Notes from Nature while working through the exercises at https://www.wedigbio.org/content/educational-exercises <https://www.wedigbio.org/content/educational-exercises>. It was very popular. Not offering a plant-focused class? No problem. There are transcription projects focused on other taxa as well at Notes from Nature and the other participating online citizen science platforms.
