Greetings Everyone, A new paper out as of yesterday: Workshop Report: *Supporting inclusive and sustainable collections-based research infrastructure for systematics (SISRIS).* Weeks Andrea, Collins Elizabeth, Majors Twanelle W, Murrell Zack E, Paul Deborah L, Sheik Matthew, Shorthouse David P, Zeringue-Krosnick Shawn (2024) in Research Ideas and Outcomes 10: e126532. https://doi.org/10.3897/rio.10.e126532 Natural history and science collections are as much about the people who create them as they are about the specimens. Documenting the contributions of collectors and identifiers both past and present: 1) advances collections-based research and 2) creates a more accurate and inclusive historical and future networked account (think metrics and impact) of biodiversity science. This report published 20 May describes our efforts to move the systematics community to action through a series of US national workshops and symposia. The goal was to spotlight the power of "people-data" that can be leveraged using next-generation biodiversity informatics tools. SPNHC 2025 updates - May 27-31, Lawrence, KS, USA

[X] The SPNHC 2025 LOC wishes to provide updates on new information on the SPNHC 2025 website - https://spnhc2025.ku.edu/, as well as some important reminders for the annual meeting to be held May 27-31, 2025 in Lawrence, KS, USA. Accommodation options have now been released with 275 rooms in 5 hotels within 3 miles of the conference venue. More rooms will be available if we fill these room blocks so, please book early. Additionally, 60 rooms are available in a cost-effective KU apartment option conveniently located on campus. Stouffer Apartments offers 4-person suites with private bedrooms and bathrooms and shared kitchen and living room spaces. The full kitchens have a stove, refrigerator, and dishwasher. Rooms are $40 per night with an optional linen package including flat and fitted sheets, pillow and pillowcase, blanket, towel, and washcloth for $25 (once-off fee). The BioBlitz will cover all taxa and will run from May 20 to June 8. SPNHC members and potentially local artists donate personal or collections-based art to be auctioned off, with proceeds benefiting the SPNHC Student Travel Fund. This initiative directly impacts inclusion and supports students and early-career professionals, while simultaneously celebrating and expanding the artistic creativity of our community. The auction will also serve as a platform to connect attendees with the arts while showcasing the diversity of contributions from SPNHC members. By encouraging participation from local artists, the auction has the potential to extend the conference’s reach and impact beyond its traditional audience, strengthening ties, visibility, relevance, and inclusion with the local community and across our own. SPNHC Annual Meeting Travel Grants Available Application Deadline: January 31, 2025, Close of Business (COB) Your Local Time The Society for the Preservation of Natural History Collections (SPNHC) is offering travel grants for the 2025 SPNHC Annual Meeting, https://spnhc2025.ku.edu/travel-grants. Applicants must be members of the Society or apply for membership before the application will be accepted. While any SPNHC member may apply, preference will be given to students (undergraduate or graduate) and emerging professionals, focused on the physical care, management, or preservation of natural history collections. Preference will also be given to applicants presenting at the conference. SPNHC members from the following countries are strongly encouraged to apply—Central and South America, Africa, Asia, and Eastern Europe. REMINDER: SPNHC 2025 call for sessions, symposia, and workshops - submission deadline January 10

We invite you to submit a proposal for an organized session or workshop<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1vy1f0qyKx05J4F8Wxtub5zVMgyiEX1OdeDPngfPc-q…> (Google form) at SPNHC 2025 that reflects the work of SPNHC, and collections standards and best practices that contribute to our understanding and documentation of biodiversity. Organized sessions can be symposia, panel discussions, lightning sessions, and other formats whose primary purpose is to convey information and engage the SPNHC audience. We strongly encourage you to submit proposals that fit the conference theme: Sustainable Futures: Challenges and Opportunities for Modern Collections. Sessions may be open or closed to presentation submissions; we highly encourage diversity and inclusivity, and session ideas not explored during previous SPNHC conferences as well as follow-up discussions of sessions in Okinawa. Session proposers will be responsible for soliciting and coordinating presentations, reviewing, approving, and ordering abstracts for the session, and moderating the proposed session(s). At least one session organizer must be present, in person, at the meeting. Every symposium must have an abstract that will be published on the conference website. Session organizers and all presenters must be registered for the conference. There will also be the typical open sessions to accommodate presentations not in a proposed session or symposium. Workshops If you wish to host a workshop, please contact the conference organizers at spnhc2025(a)ku.edu<mailto:spnhc2025@ku.edu> for more information and to discuss options or with any questions. Workshop proposals should include the following information: 1. Title of the workshop to publish on the website and add to registration 2. A short summary of the workshop that we can publish on the website and add to registration that outlines what will be covered and the outcomes 3. Length of workshop - half day, full day, # of hours 4. Any caps on attendance - total # of attendees. We will do our best to accommodate whatever you need 5. Room setup - classroom style or other configuration 6. Any technology or other items that participants will need to bring with them 7.
