Dear colleagues,

I would like to inform you about bioinformatics positions (research group
leaders) at the IPK Gatersleben. Please distribute them also to colleagues
who might be interested to apply.

Wishing you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, yours,

Helmut Knuepffer

The Bioinformatics Center (BIC-GH) is a joint initiative of the Institute
of Plant Genetics and Crop Plant Research (IPK) Gatersleben, the Institute
of Plant Biochemistry (IPB) Halle, and the Martin-Luther-University (MLU)
Halle-Wittenberg and includes further the Konrad-Zuse-Center Berlin and
the Kelman GmbH, Berlin. It is funded for a five-year period by the German
Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The BIC-GH has initiated a
masters course of studies in bioinformatics at the MLU for graduate
students from natural sciences. In addition, the center will establish
research groups for which we seek

                        Five
                        Junior Research Group Leaders, Bioinformatics
                        (BAT-O Ib to BAT-O I)

with interests in the following fields:

            - Development of a plant data warehouse for genotypic,
phenotypic, taxonomic and expression data of cultivated plants (IPK
44/11/01). More information: Dr. Helmut Knuepffer, knupffer at ipk-gatersleben.de

            - Analysis and modeling of metabolic and regulatory
networks (IPK 45/11/01). More information: Dr. Lothar Altschmied,
lothar at ipk-gatersleben.de

            - Recognition and analysis of spatio-temporal
developmental patterns (IPK 46/11/01). More information: Dr. Patrick
Schweizer, schweiz at ipk-gatersleben.de

            - Bioinformatics and mass spectrometry (IPB 10/2001). More
information: Dr. Stephan Clemens, sclemens at ipb-halle.de

            - Expression analysis by microarrays (MLU-285). More
information: Prof. Stefan Burdach, stefan.burdach at medizin.uni-halle.de

Three to five additional positions, set-up and supply budgets are committed
to each research group. One of the group leaders located at the IPK will be
appointed as Scientific Coordinator of the consortium. Candidates should
have a doctorate or PhD in the area of bioinformatics, scientific
computing, database development or molecular simulation. Experience in
interdisciplinary research would be desirable. Strong interaction with
experimental research groups and the willingness to participate in teaching
are required. Applications for the additional positions at the level of
scientists, programmers, graduate students and system managers are
encouraged, but will be considered after group leaders have been identified.
