Objet : [tdwg] Our colleague and dear friend William Ulate has passed away

Dear TDWG colleagues and friends,

You may have already heard the news. If not, the TDWG Executive and I are deeply saddened to announce that long term TDWG Treasurer, valued colleague, and dear friend, William Ulate, has passed away. He was afflicted by a rapid onset, brief illness, and his passing is sudden and unexpected. Chuck Miller from the Missouri Botanical Gardens was able to visit him in hospital and also gave us the news that William’s daughter was able to fly up from Costa Rica to be with him.

With the TDWG conference only a few weeks away, we have started to make arrangements for William’s life to be celebrated during the opening session of the conference. Details will follow of opportunities to contribute condolences or tributes either virtually or in person.

Kind regards, Ely Wallis

Chair, TDWG Executive
