Dear TDWG community,
Biodiversity Information Standards http://tdwg.org (TDWG) seeks a part-time coordinator to work remotely on a contract basis. The contract will be administered via the Global Biodiversity Information Facility and supervised by the TDWG chair. Hourly rate will be subject to location pay scales consistent with appropriate governmental practices (e.g. http://icsc.un.org/resources/cold/par/class/archived/jan2014.pdf) . Hours worked will be negotiable, but will be expected to be consistent; they will likely vary according to season from 25% to 50%. Position is for one year subject to extension. Contract is subject to availability of funds and acceptable performance. Relocation is not expected nor supported.
Biodiversity Information Standards (TDWG) is a not-for-profit scientific and educational association affiliated with the International Union of Biological Sciences. TDWG was formed in 1994 to establish international collaboration among biological database projects and promote the wider and more effective dissemination of information about the world's heritage of biological organisms for the benefit of the world at large. Biodiversity Information Standards (TDWG) now focuses on the development of standards for the exchange of biological/biodiversity information. It is governed by an elected Executive Committee http://www.tdwg.org/about-tdwg/executive/ and operated by the committee and its membership.
The TDWG coordinator will provide professional support for the Executive Committee as described below. Requirements
1.
A good understanding of TDWG, its constituents and clients. 2.
Effective communication skills, particularly in written English. 3.
The ability to work reliably and independently in a remote capacity, using own equipment and internet service. 4.
Well-developed skills with Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint) or equivalent 5.
Experience in authoring and releasing articles in an online content management system (CMS) such as Typo3, Drupal etc.
Roles and Responsibilities
1.
Maintains effective communication within the Executive Committee and between the Executive Committee and members, e.g. distributing documents to the Executive Committee and to the Membership as directed 2.
Monitors the effectiveness and accuracy of the TDWG website, TDWG GitHub site, and TDWG mailing lists, and ensures that they are up-to-date 3.
Assists with the solicitation, preparation, publication and maintenance of web content 4.
Assists the Annual Conference Manager/Local Host with the distribution of information relating to the Annual Conference to the membership, and assists the Program Chair in the preparation of the Annual Conference program as required 5.
Maintains and advertises, where appropriate, a calendar of activities and deadlines for TDWG business, e.g., solicitation and posting of annual reports required of interest groups, task groups, and the Executive Committee; proposals before the Executive Committee and membership. 6.
Otherwise assists the Secretary, Treasurer, and Chair in their duties as needed
