Humboldt Task Group Meeting Wed 8 Nov 2023, 12:00 UTC
Hi team, Tomorrow we are meeting at *12:00 UTC*. Search for your local time here <https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html?iso=20231101T120000&p1=1440&p2=83> or google it because I am quite bad at this! We need to *finish revising ALA's feedback <https://docs.google.com/document/d/1OxJ_H5vBd9pucjdgQDa6qMaQKl4O89gf/edit> *(starting from Plural Terms on page 10). In order to properly respond to one of their comments,* please revise this document <https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1AbUUKDkgilbtHu9Dh_5V2dnOeQNbKBcRo4d7VEDyqOg/edit#gid=675481326> (column F) and make sure that the only terms that need to reflect INTENT* are denoted as 'design' in column F. I forgot to send a summary from last week but here it goes: - Kate is moving all ALA comments to GitHub issues - Steve will create an issue about the need to remove BCO as mandatory controlled vocabulary for eco:inventoryTypes - Yani will create humboldt terms templates - Ani will get iDiv people to provide feedback For the future, is anybody interested in starting a new TDWG Task Group that looks into organizing a controlled vocabulary for inventoryTypes, protocols, etc? All the best! Hi all, Below you can find the summary of the meeting: - We decided to remove the mention of BCO for inventoryTypes - We decided to remove geospatialScopeAreaInSquareKilometers and totalAreaSampledInSquareKilometers and replace them with: - *geospatialScopeAreaValue * - Geospatial Scope Area Value - The numeric value for the total area of the geospatial scope of the dwc:Event. - Geospatial scope refers to the dwc:Event location reported using the terms organized in Darwin Core under dcterms:Location. This area is always greater than or equal to the totalAreaSampledValue. An eco:geospatialScopeAreaValue must have a corresponding eco:geospatialScopeAreaUnit. - *geospatialScopeAreaUnit * - Geospatial Scope Area Unit - The units associated with eco:geospatialScopeAreaValue - Recommended best practice is to use a controlled vocabulary. - *totalAreaSampledValue * - Total Area Sampled Value - The numeric value for the total area surveyed during the dwc:Event. - This area is always less than or equal to the eco:geospatialScopeAreaValue. An eco:totalAreaSampledValue must have a corresponding eco:totalAreaSampledUnit. - *totalAreaSampledUnit* - Total Area Sampled Unit - The units associated with eco:totalAreaSampledValue - Recommended best practice is to use a controlled vocabulary. - For consistency, we decided to switch eventDuration for *eventDurationValue* (comments in eventDurationUnit should also change) *- *Regarding plurals, we decided to switch to *protocolDescriptions* and *compilationTypes* Updated terms and definitions can be found here (including these 4 proposed terms): https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1AbUUKDkgilbtHu9Dh_5V2dnOeQNbKBcRo4d7... Thank, Yani. I've created new issues for the 4 value-unit terms and closed the 2 issues for the originally proposed terms (GH issue links are in the ALA doc). I've updated the names and comments for eventDurationValue, protocolDescriptions, and compilationTypes. Cheers, Kate On Wed, Nov 8, 2023 at 3:35 PM Yanina Sica <yanina.sica@gmail.com> wrote:

Hi all, We had a great discussion today and are close to finishing ALA comments! Based on a very interesting comment* we might propose an additional term to allow reporting of general scopes in a more descriptive way*. See ALA comment and our draft proposal in Scope Type on page 16 <https://docs.google.com/document/d/1OxJ_H5vBd9pucjdgQDa6qMaQKl4O89gf/edit>. Ani will do her magic with the definitions and comments but it would be great to get your general feeling about this. Best! Dear all, Does anyone have access to Yani's TDWG slides on the Humboldt Extension? I believe she did send the Google Drive link to all of us sometime in the past couple of months. Yani agreed that I could use some of these slides to kick off the iDiv feedback meeting - which is _today at 14:00_. However, I just found that I don't have access to the drive (requires a Google account and sign in). I have emailed Yani, but she is on holiday and may not see the message. Could anyone who /can/ view the slides provide a way for me to access them (email them, or place a copy somewhere public just temporarily)? Many thanks! Ani On 07/11/2023 15:11, Yanina Sica wrote:

Hi team,
Tomorrow we are meeting at *12:00 UTC*.
In order to properly respond to one of their comments,*please revise this document <https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1AbUUKDkgilbtHu9Dh_5V2dnOeQNbKBcRo4d7VEDyqOg/edit#gid=675481326> (column F) and make sure that the only terms that need to reflect INTENT* are denoted as 'design' in column F.
I forgot to send a summary from last week but here it goes:
- Kate is moving all ALA comments to GitHub issues
- Steve will create an issue about the need to remove BCO as mandatory controlled vocabulary for eco:inventoryTypes
- Yani will create humboldt terms templates
- Ani will get iDiv people to provide feedback
For the future, is anybody interested in starting a new TDWG Task Group that looks into organizing a controlled vocabulary for inventoryTypes, protocols, etc?
All the best! See you soon
Yani
