FYI GBIF comms are a bit shorthanded for a week or so and Kate is out of office, too.

 

As this is a TDWG news at its heart, I suggest HE TG drafts elements of the news story in a google doc, from where TDWG and GBIF comms, in coordination, can fish out messages for finalization and synced release. Maybe it is a single news item in the end with reposts – but I am sure that we need to help comms formulate the statements: what it is, what is new, why important, expected impact, a quote from TG chair. We can pick this up around 24 April.

Yes, my colleague (Nigel) just asked TDWG about a news item for this last week. Good timing. As Yani said, they replied that they haven't had capacity to put one out but would welcome anything that we have to offer. So I think if GBIF releases something we could just share that directly with TDWG, if that sounds right?

I was also thinking that TDWG 2025 should be a target demonstrating HE in actions: datasets formatted to HE and indexed, possibly different ways how HE is handled by the publishers, which we know then, etc. This can be a session, workshop etc. Not happening in 2024 (which feels right to me), but I agree somebody somewhere should say something from TDWG stage.

The Field Museum (actually Nigel Pitman) asked the TDWG communication team if they were going to make an announcement about the Humboldt extension. They answered that unfortunately they do not have the capacity to do so but Nigel may start working on such a piece. So we might have a TDWG news item after all...
