TDWG news items sounds like a good plan – and it would be very nice to coordinate this with a GBIF news item at some point. Please make sure that Kate Ingenloff kingenloff@gbif.org and GBIF comms communication@gbif.org are copied if / when this happens.

Maybe HE can be a mention in some opening speeches in Okinawa?

I was also thinking that TDWG 2025 should be a target demonstrating HE in actions: datasets formatted to HE and indexed, possibly different ways how HE is handled by the publishers, which we know then, etc. This can be a session, workshop etc. Not happening in 2024 (which feels right to me), but I agree somebody somewhere should say something from TDWG stage.

Dmitry

AMAZING!!!

great news!

The Field Museum (actually Nigel Pitman) asked the TDWG communication team if they were going to make an announcement about the Humboldt extension. They answered that unfortunately they do not have the capacity to do so but Nigel may start working on such a piece. So we might have a TDWG news item after all...

Incredible!! Thank you all for your hard work!!

What remains for future work is the development of Events in general and Inventories in particular in the GBIF data ingestion pipeline. But the development today provides good incentive to start to invest in those additions.

Amen!

That was very kind of you to ask for that John, thank you!!

I was remiss in including a nice visual of the accomplishment ....

Dear all,

Today GBIF made the changes necessary to enable the addition of the Humboldt Extension in Darwin Core archives published via production versions of the IPT. This milestone is monumental. Humboldt is only the second ever ratified Darwin Core extension after ChronometricAge, and now has the full body of documentation and capacity to publish data.

What remains for future work is the development of Events in general and Inventories in particular in the GBIF data ingestion pipeline. But the development today provides good incentive to start to invest in those additions.

I have asked Tim if he can initiate the process for the release of a news item on gbif.org. That might result in a request for input from this group. I think it would also be good to ask for a news item for TDWG, and to provide a suggestion for what that might look like.

I am super content with what has been accomplished.

Cheers,

John
