Collections and Digitization Specialist for the iDigBio project

The newly established National Resource for Digitization of Biological Collections (iDigBio), centered at the Florida Museum of Natural History and funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation, will develop an integrated national infrastructure for digitization of biodiversity collections housed in U.S. institutions.  The resource will provide access to information critical to scientific research and education, including that designed to understand biodiversity and societal consequences of climate change and other environmental issues.

The iDigBio project is looking for a person with extensive experience in biodiversity informatics and biological collection digitization to participate in the NSF Advancing Digitization of Biological Collections (ADBC) program. The iDigBio project is the ADBC Hub at the University of Florida and the Florida State University.  This position will be non-tenure track faculty at Florida State University in the Institute for Information Management and Scientific Communication.

The successful candidate will be part of the iDigBio coordination team and will interact with digitization projects in order to help with prioritization, work flow development, and adoption and enhancement of standard data models. This person will support the ADBC thematic networks through the collaborative development of digitization standards and workflows, publication of guides and standards documents, by getting directly involved in data and workflow modeling activities, by organizing and leading workshops and professional presentations, and by traveling to user sites and meetings for collaboration, training and outreach activities.

This FSU faculty position is in the FSU Institute for Digital Information of the College of Communication and Information and is budgeted for the full 5 years of iDigBio funding. This Assistant in Research position is a non-tenure track faculty position with full benefits.
