[tdwg-tapir] tapir clients?
Hi Tapirologists, There's the PyWrapper and TapirLink for the server side of the protocol, but I was wondering if: a) there's other server implementations and b) what client implementations are out there It might be worthwhile starting a "Software" page on the wiki to provide pointers to the various projects implementing TAPIR. cheers, Dave V.
Hi Dave, There was a hidden page about TAPIR software somewhere in the wiki. I've just included a link to it in the front page, but you won't find any news there - those are the two provider implementations that we have so far. We are also looking for client software (we need more hands!). Some people demonstrated special interest for developing a TAPIR harvester during the last workshop, so there may be some news in this area soon. I also suggested the DiGIR project at sourceforge as a collaborative environment for new developments, since most people are already registered there. If you're just looking for a quick way of interacting with providers, both PyWrapper and TapirLink come with a simple query interface. In TapirLink it's the tapir_client.php inside www. There are also some test databases mapped to the new Darwin Core, Geospatial, and Curatorial extensions here: http://128.32.146.144/tapir/tapir.php/MVZDwC (big ~700,000 records) and here http://128.32.146.144/tapir/tapir.php/NMMNHMammalsDwC (small 5067 records) Please don't hurt them badly, they are real providers. Two quick questions: * For providers that want to migrate to TAPIR and already have data indexed by GBIF from previous DiGIR/BioCASe instances, what will be the recommended procedure? (will it be necessary to re-index everything or is there an easy re-configuration process on the GBIF side?). Do they need to contact GBIF to specify both the new TAPIR accesspoint and the old one that will be replaced or is there a way to do this just by interacting with the UDDI registry? * On the web pages where GBIF lists providers, BioCASe/ABCD ones are marked with a special flag. The new GBIF data portal can index data provided using TAPIR with Dwc/Geo/Cur or ABCD 1.20/2.05/2.06.

Dave, Most TAPIR providers will be able to return RDF and so any semantic web client is a potential TAPIR client. They won't necessarily run SPARQL queries but they will certainly associate URLs with RDF content. My plan is to produce RDF output models even for the providers who haven't mapped the TDWG ontology.
