[tdwg-humboldt] Meeting after TDWG 2023 and more...

+1, GBIF Governing board week in Canberra -> cannot join the call.

I have the same impression as Steve from TDWG, and also from discussion around TDWG with ALA, CSIRO colleagues incl. Peter, and a brief discussion with Peggy, too about ecological data streams from Australia – there is an important TERN infrastructure – a sister organization to ALA, with own data standard different from DwC. I understood that there will be discussions in Australia on if, how and when these data can be mapped to DwC + Humboldt. I think we will hear about the plans from Peter or his colleagues. I feel there is a great potential to see these data humboldtized after the discussion settle down on the optimal solutions nationally.

BR,
Dmitry

Hi Yani et al.

I won’t be able to make it to the meeting as I will be in the air on the way back to the U.S. But I can report a little about the reception of Humboldt. People seem quite interested in it and I had the opportunity to talk about it with several people.

Peggy Newman (Peggy.Newman at csiro.au<mailto:Peggy.Newman at csiro.au>) told me that people in her office of Atlas of Living Australia had reviewed Humboldt and were going to comment on it, but I don’t know if they’ve actually done that yet. If we are considering holding the public comment open a bit longer, we might check whether they are serious about commenting.

I also had an extended conversation with Clara Fonseca (clara.fonseca at consultores.rnp.br<mailto:clara.fonseca at consultores.rnp.br>) about Humboldt. They have a big funded project in Brazil to survey the after-effects of some big chemical spill that happened a few years ago and they are struggling to figure out how to publish their data, which has a pretty complicated nested sampling design. So we will probably be hearing from her asking for advice about implementing Humboldt in their project.

Talk to you next time,
Steve

Hi all,

Hope you had a very energetic week in TDWG or GEO BON or at home...

I was hoping we could meet tomorrow at our usual time to catch up after TDWG, review what we are missing, and prepare for the end of the public review.

All the best!
